Moving day can either be a great experience or a stressful one. Add in the possibility of a blizzard and moving in the winter can become quite the adventure. Follow these tips to ensure a successful residential moving day!
- Check the Snowplow Schedule
You’ve cleared the sidewalk, you’ve cleared the driveway, you’ve checked the weather, and you head to bed for the night. Looking forward to moving day in the morning. Then the plow truck comes through and blocks off all your hard work and the moving day starts with you redoing all that hard work. Do yourself a favor, check the plow schedule, and avoid this problem altogether.
- Have Old Blankets Ready
You know that the weather is unpredictable in the winter. Keep your household items protected from all of the winter elements by using old blankets to transport them in and out of the moving truck.
- Keep Spare Gloves
Chances are pretty good that your hands are going to get cold and wet while you’re moving. Take a tip from your local commercial moving company and stock up on a few extra pairs of dollar store gloves to make sure that your fingers and hands stay warm and dry all day.
- Double Pack Fragile Items
This is great advice for any moving day but is especially true in the winter. Accidents can happen, and they are even more likely when you add ice and snow into the mix. Just in case something does happen, you don’t want your fragile items to break. Take a little time and double pack these items so that if an accident does happen, your items will be protected.
- Be Flexible
Whether you are long distance moving or local moving, you need to be flexible. Things happen. Weather shifts, schedules get altered, and accidents happen. Proceed with caution and if you need to take an extra day or two to make sure your move is successful, don’t fret!
- Tip Your Movers Well
Your movers are out in the elements all day, getting old and wet, and handling all of your precious cargo with care. And, since they aren’t as busy in the winter, they likely aren’t getting as many jobs, which means fewer tips for them. Tip them well for doing a great job and give them thanks! They’ll appreciate it!
