How to Child Proof your Home after Moving

Moving with children isn’t easy. Not only is the actual travel difficult with a young child, but the whole moving process can be stressful and chaotic with children. Additionally, parents are typically going from a house they have completely prepared and child-proofed to a new home with none of those precautions in place. Here are a few tips for keeping your children safe while you are moving:

  • Set up a safe room for your children in both your old and new home. Not only will you keep your children out of harm’s way, but the entire process for both you and your movers will be much easier and safer. Set up a clean and child proofed room with some toys to keep your children happy and safe while the movers are taking trips in and out of the house.
  • Move all of your chemicals, cleaning supplies, and other dangerous items in a safe and protected way. By this we mean you should keep all the dangerous chemicals out of the children’s way during the moving process. Keep them in a secure moving box so that they are not laying around during the moving process.
  • Keep your moving tools in a secure area away from children. Your scissors, box cutters, and other tools should be kept in a secure place during the move. If possible, do most of your packing when the children are out of the house at day care or with a family member.
