Common Moving Mistakes

There are several common mistakes made during and before moving. There are a few common moving mistakes we see made by self-movers and our customers.

  • Not preparing for your move in advance. A successful move takes months of preparation. Begin your research into moving companies months in advance, and make arrangements at least a month before your move. Moving companies can be very busy during the spring and summer, so if you are planning your move for these months, make sure to schedule service far in advance. Start packing your rarely used items at least a month in advance so that it is easier to finish packing.
  • Remember to get an estimate for your move. We provide free quotes for our moving services.
  • You moved stuff that you were going to throw away anyways. Many times people don’t clean out their houses or apartments before they move. Have a yard sale and sell stuff on Craigslist before moving. There is probably a lot of things that you don’t need, so don’t go through the hassle of moving them.
  • If you have pets, plan accordingly for them. Usually a crate is the best option to safely travel with a dog. If they have never used one before, make sure to get your pets used to it.
  • Prepare for your sensitive items. For example, you will need to have any propane grill tanks emptied by a professional. You will need to have your firearms and alcohol transported properly as well. Discuss these sensitive items with your moving company well in advance.
