With moving season in full swing during summer and fall, many people are changing zip codes, and packing up their belongings to load onto a moving truck.
When facing your new home or apartment, you may want to be mindful of scratching or damaging floors. This is beneficial to you and your moving company! Your movers will thank you for being considerate of their needs, and your floors will remain scratch free from the heavy traffic occurring during the move.
Some ways to protect your floors are:
- Doormats. You can line your entryways with doormats to collect mud, dirt, leaves or any stray trash. This will help to prevent your movers from slipping while carrying the heavier pieces in your home.
- Use old rugs. Old rugs can provide the best protection from scuffing because you were going to discard the rugs after the move regardless. Use these rugs to line hallways and areas where people are going to be walking a lot. Once the move is complete, you can toss the rugs and reveal a spotless floor!
- Try Furniture Sliders. Furniture Sliders are an easy way to prevent your floor from becoming scratched, while also helping to ease the stress on your body from picking up heavier items. If you don’t have furniture sliders, or wheels on any of your furniture, try cardboard instead. This will let the furniture slide as well.
- Ask your moving company about a floor protection roll. A floor protection roll is a roll of paper that your movers will stick to your floors before moving your belongings. The paper comes right up afterward, and leaves your floors without a scratch.
These tricks should help you to avoid scratches and gouges on a brand new floor. If you do end up with the tiniest (or larger) scratch most hardware stores sell easy fixes for these issues, so you don’t have to worry!
