6 Tips For Moving In The Summer

Spring and summer present amazing warm weather that is perfect for moving. This is why these seasons are moving companies’ busiest seasons. Whether you are looking to move locally or long distance, you will want to make sure that you are prepared properly for your summer move. As we know there will be nice weather, but with that comes instances where the moving process can become uncomfortable. With these helpful tips, you can make your moving process a successful and enjoyable one.

6 Moving Tips For The Summer

Book Movers In Advance

As mentioned above, most moving companies will be well booked or will be taking calls like crazy as this is their busy season? This is why we suggest booking your company well in advance to this season. Not only will it lock you in with the moving company of your choice, like Expert Moving & Storage, but you can also properly plan other parts of the move now that the movers are taken care of. This goes for both residential moving and commercial moving.

Yard Sale

One thing we tend to notice in the warmer months of the year is the increase of garage/yard sales. The warm weather provides the perfect setting to have items you no longer want out for display for potential buyers to take off your hands while also giving you money for later use. This is a perfect solution after you have decided on moving, and have started organizing your belongings. This part of the moving process is where families or businesses will find extra belongings or items they no longer need. Instead of throwing them out, why not make money off of them? Have your sale a few weeks before the actual move so there is no clutter in the way. Make your yard sale fun by offering lemonade and maybe a pie for buyers to stay longer and look at all of the items you have out to get rid of as many as possible.

Pack Efficiently

When it comes to moving day, you will want everything to be ready to go rather than wasting time packing up belongings and prolonging the move altogether. The best way to go about it is having boxes dedicated to each room, then go through the whole house room by room and putting the proper items in the correct boxes. This way you can thoroughly go through each room and have all of the belongings in boxes that will be placed in their respective rooms in the new home. Not only will this help with your unpacking, but will help the movers when they are taking out boxes from the truck. They will know exactly where to place the boxes in your new home.

Packing The Truck Properly

Packing according to room is only the first step. With summer moves, you will have to think of each item you have and whether or not the summer heat will affect them. If you are moving locally or long distances, your items will be inside a moving truck that will be out in the hot climate. This is where you will have to be wary of packing heat sensitive items and having them together. If you have room, we suggest carrying these sensitive items with you, but if they must go in the moving truck, be sure to label them properly. By letting movers know that a certain box needs to be unpacked first, they can place these boxes at the end of the truck so they are the first to come out when you reach our new home.

Stay Cool

While protecting your items from the heat is important for your move, protecting your self from the warmer climate is just as important. Make sure you have enough water for both you and the movers to stay hydrated at all points of the moving process. Heat stroke and dehydration are more common in the summer and you wouldn’t want either of those to happen during your move to either you or your movers. If your new destination is already set up with air conditioning, then be sure to turn it on before the movers get there so that they can enter a cool place when moving boxes from the truck. You can also have a dedicated “cool room” for the movers to take a break in and cool off from the heat.

Always Think About Traffic

With Massachusetts being one of the worst states in terms of traffic, you will want to be sure to think about this with your move. This is especially important with the summer as people plan vacations, and outdoor activities with school being out. The best thing to do is to avoid weekends, vacation weekends, or weeks that include a vacation. This will prevent you from getting stuck in vacation traffic.
